Universal Studios Florida is saying goodbye to one of its most distinctive coasters. Rip Ride Rockit will close this August to make room for something new.

End of the Line for Rip Ride Rockit
Universal has confirmed that Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit will permanently close on August 18, 2025. The update quietly appeared on the ride’s official page, along with a note that “a new experience” will take its place. Details on what’s coming next haven’t been shared yet.
This news isn’t entirely unexpected. Universal hinted at a September closure earlier this year, but many fans still held out hope that the ride might stick around a little longer.
Why It’s a Big Deal
Rip Ride Rockit has been a staple of Universal Studios Florida since it opened in 2009. It’s known for its towering vertical lift hill, wild layout, and of course, the choose-your-own-soundtrack feature that gave riders a unique playlist with every experience.
Despite its popularity, not everyone loved it. The coaster developed a reputation over the years for being a bit rough, and the novelty of picking your own music didn’t always make up for the bumpy ride.
Still, it’s one of the park’s few outdoor coasters. Once it closes, the only remaining one in that category will be the Trollercoaster, which is designed for younger kids. The rest, like Revenge of the Mummy and Escape from Gringotts, are indoor attractions.
Why It’s Probably Going
Unlike Walt Disney World, Universal doesn’t have the luxury of endless land. Most new additions to the parks require something else to be removed. That’s part of why Epic Universe was built on a completely separate plot of land.
It’s possible that Rip Ride Rockit had simply run its course. Maintenance costs, guest feedback, and the age of the ride may have all played a part in the decision. For local fans, the excitement of the music gimmick likely wore off long ago.
What’s Next?
So far, Universal hasn’t offered any clues about what will replace Rip Ride Rockit. But with Epic Universe opening soon and the entire resort evolving rapidly, it’s clear that this move is part of a bigger picture.
Fans are already speculating about what could take its place. Whether it’s a brand-new coaster, an entertainment venue, or something entirely different, all eyes will be on that space once the August 18 closure rolls around.
