Universal Orlando Resort has just confirmed what many theme park fans have been anticipating: a brand-new high-speed roller coaster is on the way to Universal Studios Florida. Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift at Universal Studios Florida is scheduled to open in 2027, taking over the site formerly occupied by the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit coaster.

This new attraction is designed to bring the thrill of the Fast & Furious film series to life with a coaster experience that looks set to push the boundaries of what guests have come to expect from Universal’s ride lineup.

What is Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift at Universal Studios Florida?

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is a new steel launched roller coaster inspired by the blockbuster Fast & Furious franchise. Unlike the previous Rip Ride Rockit coaster, this ride promises a unique experience with 360-degree drifting vehicles and high-octane elements that echo the movies’ signature street racing style.

Universal has confirmed the ride will feature a dramatic 170-foot vertical spike, sending riders nearly 17 stories into the air before unleashing thrilling track elements that simulate fast-paced drifting and manoeuvres.

Replacing a Universal Classic

The new coaster will be built on the site of the former Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit attraction, which closed in August 2025 after 16 years of operation. The original coaster was known for blending a high-speed steel track with a personalised on-ride soundtrack, but the park has since moved forward with a fresh chapter in that space.

At the same time, Universal also announced that the existing Fast & Furious – Supercharged dark ride will close permanently in 2027, making way for Hollywood Drift and a streamlined franchise presence throughout the parks.

What We Know So Far

Details are still emerging, but here’s what we currently know about the new ride:

  • 🎢 Opening Year: 2027

  • 📍 Location: Universal Studios Florida

  • 🎬 Theme: Fast & Furious franchise

  • 🚗 Ride Features: 360-degree drifting vehicles

  • 📏 Vertical Spike: Approx. 170 feet

  • 🛠 Replaces: Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit

  • 🎟 Supercharged Closure: Fast & Furious – Supercharged will close to accommodate the new attraction

Unlike the Florida version, Universal Studios Hollywood will also debut its own Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster in 2026, but the two coasters are expected to have distinct designs and ride experiences.

What This Means for Guests

This announcement signals a major commitment by Universal Orlando to deliver new experiences rooted in globally recognised film properties. The Fast & Furious brand has huge appeal, and a coaster that promises high speeds, drifting mechanics, and dramatic elements like a vertical spike is bound to attract thrill-seekers and franchise fans alike.

For visitors planning future trips, this adds another reason to consider Universal Studios Florida in 2027 and beyond, especially if roller coasters are a highlight of your theme park days.
