Disney Wish Is Sailing From Southampton to New York: What Disney’s New 2027 Cruises Mean for UK Guests

Disney Cruise Line has revealed its latest batch of sailings for autumn 2027 and spring 2028, and amongst the usual collection of new dates and itineraries there is something rather more interesting for British guests.

Disney Wish is already heading to Europe for the first time in summer 2027, including cruises from Southampton. We now know what happens at the end of that season, and rather than simply heading back to Florida, Wish is taking the scenic route.

She’ll sail from Southampton to New York, spend just over a month cruising from Manhattan to Bermuda, Canada and New England, continue to San Juan and eventually make her way back to Port Canaveral.

If you normally think of a Disney cruise holiday as Orlando followed by a few nights in the Bahamas, there are suddenly some very different possibilities worth looking at.

You can sail Disney Wish from Southampton all the way to New York in 2027

Let’s start with the one that immediately caught our attention.

On 17 September 2027, Disney Wish will leave Southampton on a 12-night westbound transatlantic cruise, calling at Greenock in Scotland, Reykjavik in Iceland and St John’s in Newfoundland before arriving in New York on 29 September.

That’s an unusual Disney itinerary in its own right, but for British guests the starting point makes it particularly interesting. You can board one of Disney Cruise Line’s newest ships without flying anywhere first and finish the cruise in New York.

Of course, the flight hasn’t magically disappeared. You still have to get home again, and a one-way transatlantic sailing needs more planning than a straightforward return cruise from Southampton.

But turn that around and it also gives you options.

Add a few nights in New York afterwards and the journey becomes part of a much bigger holiday, rather than simply being the way Disney gets Wish back across the Atlantic.

And once Wish reaches New York, things get more interesting again.

Disney Cruise Line is returning to New York

Disney Wish will operate seven cruises from New York between late September and the end of October 2027, with itineraries ranging from four to seven nights.

Five of those sailings visit Bermuda, including several that give guests additional time there, while other itineraries head north towards Canada and New England.

That gives British travellers another way of thinking about a Disney cruise. New York is already a hugely popular city-break destination from the UK, so combining a few nights in Manhattan with a Disney cruise isn’t particularly difficult to imagine. More importantly, it creates a Disney cruise holiday that feels completely different from flying into Orlando and heading for Port Canaveral.

That doesn’t automatically make it better, or cheaper, but it does make it worth knowing about.

Bermuda might be the easiest New York combination

The shortest New York sailing is a four-night cruise to Bermuda departing on 29 September, followed by several longer Bermuda options during October.

For somebody wanting to build a New York and Disney Cruise Line holiday without disappearing for three weeks, these are probably the itineraries we’d look at first.

A few nights exploring New York, followed by four or five nights aboard Disney Wish and some time in Bermuda, makes for a very different Disney holiday without requiring the sort of annual leave needed for the 12-night Atlantic crossing.

Several of the October cruises are also Halloween on the High Seas sailings, so there’s an extra Disney element if travelling at that time of year appeals to you.

There is one practical point worth remembering, though. You’re travelling in the Atlantic in autumn rather than cruising around the Bahamas in summer, so don’t choose one of these itineraries simply because you’ve seen photographs of Bermuda’s pink beaches and assumed you’re booking a conventional hot-weather Caribbean cruise.

The itinerary is the attraction here.

Canada and New England give Disney an entirely different feel

The Canada and New England cruises may be even more interesting if you’ve already sailed Disney in the Caribbean.

One five-night sailing visits Saint John in New Brunswick and Boston, while a seven-night itinerary later in October heads to Charlottetown, Sydney and Halifax.

There’s also a six-night sailing combining Bermuda with Halifax.

These aren’t necessarily the itineraries we’d point towards someone dreaming of their first Disney cruise with turquoise water and Castaway Cay. For repeat Disney cruisers, though, they’re a chance to keep the familiar ship and Disney experience while changing almost everything outside the window.

Autumn colours, Atlantic Canada and New England aboard Disney Wish is a long way from another three-night Bahamas cruise.

And that’s precisely why we think this little New York season is more interesting than it might initially appear.

Then there’s New York to San Juan

On 31 October, Wish leaves New York for the final time on a five-night cruise to San Juan, Puerto Rico, calling at Bermuda along the way.

This one is perhaps the sleeper itinerary of the announcement.

It’s another one-way cruise, so once again it requires more thought about flights and the overall journey. But for the right traveller, New York, Bermuda and Puerto Rico in the same holiday is quite a combination.

Wish then operates a seven-night Southern Caribbean cruise from San Juan before continuing towards Port Canaveral, where she’ll settle back into shorter Bahamas cruises.

There is a theme developing here. Some of the most interesting new Disney options aren’t necessarily the easiest package holidays to put together, but that’s also what makes them interesting.

Port Canaveral is changing too

If all of that sounds like far too much logistical messing about and you still want Disney World followed by a cruise, Disney hasn’t forgotten about you.

Disney Destiny will move to Port Canaveral for the first time during autumn 2027, after beginning the season sailing from Fort Lauderdale.

Wish will also return to Port Canaveral after its adventures in New York and San Juan, while Disney Treasure continues its seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean programme from there.

For British visitors who like combining Walt Disney World with Disney Cruise Line, Port Canaveral remains the obvious place to start looking. Having more of Disney’s newer ships based there simply gives us more choice.

The New York programme doesn’t replace Florida. It gives us an alternative to it.

When can the new cruises be booked?

Disney is releasing these sailings in stages rather than opening everything to everybody on the same morning.

Pearl Castaway Club members can book from 31 August 2026, followed by Platinum members on 1 September, Gold members on 2 September and Silver members on 3 September. Eligible Disney Vacation Club members and Adventures by Disney Adventure Insiders can also book from 3 September.

General booking opens on 8 September 2026.

That inevitably creates a bit of opening-week excitement, particularly around unusual itineraries and popular stateroom categories, but we wouldn’t let that excitement make the decision for you.

So, should UK travellers be rushing to book?

If you’ve been waiting specifically for Disney Wish from New York, want the Southampton transatlantic or have your heart set on a particular cabin, then the booking dates obviously matter.

For everyone else, we’d look at the whole holiday before getting carried away by the fact that the itineraries are new.

The Southampton to New York crossing sounds fantastic, but it’s 12 nights before you’ve added any time in New York and your flight home. A New York cruise sounds easy to combine with a city break, but you’ll still want to compare the total cost of flights, hotels and transfers against a Florida alternative. New York to San Juan opens up an even more adventurous combination, but now you’re potentially dealing with different arrival and departure airports as well.

None of those things are reasons not to do it. They’re reasons to price the holiday rather than just the cruise.

For us, that’s what makes Disney Wish’s 2027 programme worth paying attention to. Disney Cruise Line isn’t simply adding another collection of dates to the calendar. For a few weeks in autumn 2027, British travellers can board Wish in Southampton and follow her across the Atlantic through a collection of itineraries that look nothing like the Disney cruises we’re used to seeing from Florida.

We suspect the Southampton to New York crossing will get plenty of attention, but don’t overlook what happens after she arrives.

There might be an even better holiday hiding in there.
